PHILIP LYONS
Philip Lyons is a visual analyst. He sees the world and then reconstructs it in his paintings in what seems at first to be a simplified way but is in fact very complex. The colours are simplified into strong blocks of colour but these are in turn assembled on a grid structure where they become much more varied and full of subtlety as the laws of colour theory are applied to each square.
He studied colour theory at art school and in particular the work of Seurat. Philip was also strongly influenced by a range of system painters who were visiting lecturers. Philip studied Art at South Devon and Bristol Colleges of Art.
