DORIS LINDEMANN

Doris Lindemann developed a strong interest in painting and drawing very early in life. Her native city of Dusseldorf in Germany was a buzzing center of modern art in the 1960's. By the time Doris Lindemann left school she had managed to see most of the best known work by international Surrealists, Abstract Expressionists, and Pop Artists.  In 1978 Doris Lindemann gained a Master of Arts degree, and a Master of Arts degree in Education, Psychology and Philosophy in 1981. After teaching and lecturing in various schools and colleges, she moved to Connemara in Eire in the mid-eighties. There Doris Lindemann spent time as a student of the Irish School of Landscape Painting, took part in various exhibitions, and later taught painting and drawing in adult education. In 1997 Doris Lindemann moved to St Ives where she now lives and works. 

Doris Lindemann is an associate member of the Penwith Society of Artists and the Porthmeor Printmakers. She is also a member of the Porthmeor Group, a group of artists who work together in experimental workshops in the St Ives School of Painting. She also teaches Painting Courses and Classes in St Ives Cornwall and Turkey.  Doris Lindemann is first and foremost a landscape painter, fascinated by what is elusive and ephemeral in the landscape and what is eternal and solid. Her work tries to reflect the textures and rythms of the two and the tension between them. The female figure often appears as an integral part of Doris Lindemann's landscapes.
